About The Arts House

Our home from home, in Harwich Old Town

This 2 bedroom town house has been redecorated and furnished with a mixture of vintage and modern. Please be aware that it is an old house and some of the floors are a little uneven.

We ask, please can you leave your shoes in the lobby.

Why is it called the Arts House?

We work in the art and design fields and wanted our home by the sea to reflect our passions. There are works of art on the walls, novels, poetry and books, by and about artists, on the shelves and a selection of films and music for your pleasure.

Ground Floor

The spacious and comfortable living area has freesat TV, a DVD player, and a stereo with a record player. There is a curated selection of DVDs and vinyl, which we hope you will enjoy during your stay.

The bright quarry tiled kitchen/diner looks out on the courtyard garden. You have everything you need here to cook from scratch, heat up a ready meal, or decant fish and chips onto plates (if you’re feeling fancy).

The walled garden is framed by a stylish, raised, pebbled, planter with shrubs and trees. There is a fragrant jasmine growing by the kitchen door and the bay tree is pretty handy when cooking. Garden furniture is available for relaxing in the morning or evening sun. We love to have coffee out here, even on crisp mornings.

 First Floor

There are stairs to the bedrooms & bathroom on the first floor.

Upstairs you’ll discover two bedrooms and the bathroom.

Please mind your head on the stairs as there is a low ceiling over the first leg.

The largest bedroom is centred around a king size bed. Airy and light with painted wooden floor and rugs, chairs and desk/dressing table make this the ideal space to relax. Built-in wardrobe includes extra bedding for your convenience.  The mattress is a Which? Recommended medium firm mattress, combined with bedding (we know how important those pillows are!) sourced with your comfort in mind. If you stick your head out of the window and look to the left you can see the River Stour estuary - so it can be said with confidence that this has a river view (ahem!).

Cosier than the main bedroom, the second bedroom has a double bed, and looks out over the garden. There is a fitted wardrobe with a chest of drawers and dressing table. The mattress is a Which? Recommended medium soft mattress.

In the newly tiled bathroom you’ll find all the usual stuff including bath with a fitted shower. Hand soap, shampoo, shower gel, cotton wool and emergency tampons come as standard.
